The Happy Place I Can’t Admit to Everyone Else

I asked my friends for blog writing prompts, and Francis gave me three! 😮 So I’ll start with this one: The Happy Place I Can’t Admit to Everyone Else. Have you ever seen Jaime Nepomuceno’s sculpture at GSIS in Pasay City? The one entitled “In Dreams We Fly” – I swear when I saw it, it was deja vu.

Have you ever heard of “lucid dreams”? It’s a dream where you’re conscious that you’re dreaming. When that happens for me, in-dream-flight is a usual thing. It’s delightful. So to see it in a sculpture was breathtaking.

In nightmares turned lucid, I find the power to fight back against the pressing darkness and wake up.

Or in times of grief and sorrow, I can hold and feel and cherish what I lost, as though they were still with me once more.

It’s why one story from the recent Sandman series on Netflix struck so hard. Because sometimes, what others view as fiction, I feel can be a very real experience…

Sleep is something I do not like to overdo. But… It can be an inviting place because of the power felt in lucid dreams. 🙂

Maybe, if I become a rich writer someday, I’ll ask Mr. Nepomuceno to make me a copy of that sculpture that brings the sense of dreaming to life before your eyes. Someday…
