So I’ve been reviewing my 280 page manuscript since I have a personal goal to ship it off to the publisher by the first week of October. I read it all in three days, with breaks of course.
Most of what I’ve read so far has been a blast. I’m optimistic. One chase scene made me howl in delight at the finale of the chase. The first plot hole I found was around page 251. There are passages that give me goosebumps and there’s a two-page chapter that made me teary-eyed with the weight of the characters’ emotions. Most of the corrections I placed tabs for are just mild changes in wording, and one or two typos.
Maybe I shouldn’t have paid for editors last year. Maybe I wasted a few hundred dollars with that effort. They edited it for the wrong target audience completely, and made terribly incorrect assumptions about my goals for the work. Maybe all I really needed was time to let the manuscript rest and a fresh pair of eyes to review the work with.
Lessons learned the hard way, I suppose.
But towards publishing, I’m terribly hopeful. 🙂 Next week, I plan to start sending to one publisher at a time and wait and see what comes of it. Here’s hoping. :3
