A Multilingual Children’s Book: Vylron

In 2000, as a twelve-year-old, I made a story universe called Vylron. Set in a post-Earth universe after alien interference, it transformed our planet into a fantastical world with dragon people, cat people, and elementals. My brother and the neighborhood kids and I played D&D-esque games set in Vylron, developing our characters and doodling stat sheets into a binder.

I have the binder still, the contents lost over time. But the rules of the universe I created still stand, and guided my later writing.

A few years back, I decided to rewrite Vylron as children’s stories, multilingual ones in line with the theme of telepathy leading to languageless communication between peoples. There are two characters in Vylron in particular that this regards – Lady Fate and Father Time.

I’ll leave their stories for my books someday. But as a kid who grew up devouring languages every chance she got, I love the idea of nurturing this type of learning with a book that is both fascinating and educational. Fantastical stories, told in simple language that allows a kid to context clue their way into the various translations of every line contained therein, until they have some grasp of other languages.

I want my Vylron books to be a treasured tome, a Rosetta stone, a prized possession of the future multilingual children of the world. 🙂

Someday, I hope.
